Created
by Gene Roddenberry and led by its iconic cast
of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, George Takei,
DeForest Kelley, James Doohan and Nichelle Nichols,
Star Trek served up action, humor
and a healthy dose of social commentary, while
further solidifying its position as one of classic
television’s most revered series. Season
Two introduced the character of Pavel Chekov and
delved deeply into Spock’s Vulcan culture,
a storyline that included the introduction of
his father, played by Mark Lenard. Among the classic
episodes included in the landmark second season
are “Amok Time,” in which Spock comes
face-to-face with the possibility of having to
kill his beloved captain; “The Changeling,”
which served as the inspiration for the series’
first feature film; “A Piece of the Action,”
a comic episode set in the Roaring Twenties; and
“The Trouble with Tribbles,” arguably
the most famous episode in franchise history for
its depiction of the titular cute and fuzzy, though
ultimately quite dangerous, creatures.
